10 Lessons from 10 Years in the Event Industry
When I launched Events by Mesita 10 years ago, I had no idea just how far this journey would take me. What started with a dream and a folding table has turned into a brand known for elevated florals, signature celebrations, and moments that feel unforgettable. Along the way, I’ve learned a lot and I’m sharing the realest takeaways below:
1. Every detail matters.
People may not remember the menu, but they’ll remember how you made them feel with thoughtful florals, music that hit at just the right moment, and intentional design choices. It’s never “just a party.”
2. Not all money is good money.
One hard truth: the wrong client will cost you more than any invoice will cover. Learn to recognize red flags, and protect your peace and your process.
3. The “wow” is in the walk-through.
Luxury doesn’t happen by accident. It’s a result of walkthroughs, timelines, mockups, floor plans, and vendor synergy. Planning is the magic behind the magic.
4. You can’t create magic if you’re burned out.
Rest is a revenue strategy. Delegation is design. If I’m not pouring into myself, I have nothing to give my clients.
5. Clients mirror your confidence.
If you second-guess your worth, your clients will too. Show up as the expert. You’ve earned it.
6. Elevating a space doesn’t always mean spending more.
It might just mean better. One velvet ribbon, one upgraded linen, one intentional lighting choice can transform the whole vibe.
7. Relationships > transactions.
The most powerful part of this business isn’t the decor, it’s the people. Referrals, repeat clients, and incredible opportunities all come from meaningful connections.
8. Your brand will evolve. Let it.
Your style will change. Your pricing will rise. Your audience will shift. That’s growth. That’s alignment. Don’t fight the evolution—own it.
9. Trust your eye.
Pinterest is cute, but your creativity is valid even if it’s not trending. Stay inspired, not influenced.
10. Celebrate everything.
Not just the weddings or red carpets, but the small victories, the team wins, and even the lessons that came with the struggle. Celebrate it all.
